SAN MARCOS, Texas - Texas State softball played its last game at Bobcat Field this season as they faced visiting North Texas falling, 2-0. The Bobcats drop their record to 34-16. Ryan Kos was the only Bobcat to reach base everytime at bat.
After five innings without a run, North Texas' Rebecca Waters hit a single to left center to get the Eagles on base. Mariza Martinez came up to bat next and hit the ball over the left field wall for a two-run homer that gave the Mean Green a 2-0 lead in the sixth.
The Bobcats battled back in the seventh, but were unable to score any runs dropping the game to the Mean Green.
The loss was Garnett's sixth of the year (14-6). Garnett pitched all seven innings, serving up seven strikeouts on the mound.
Texas State tallied four hits, while committing one error. North Texas had two runs off five hits and one error.
The Class of 2009 is represented by Katie Garnett, Taylor Hall, Tamara Keller, Ryan Kos, Ali McCormack, Alex Newton and Jetta Weinheimer.
Texas State enters its last weekend of conference play as they head to Huntsville to play Sam Houston State. Saturday's double header will begin at 2:00pm at the Bearkat Softball Complex. Sunday's game will begin at 1:00pm.
The Southland Conference Tournament begins next week in Lake Charles, La. Hosted by McNeese State University from Thursday, May 7-9. The Bobcats enter the tournament as the No. 1 seed for the second straight year as they claimed the Southland Conference Championship earlier this week with two wins over Stephen F. Austin.
