Waco, Texas - The Texas State Bobcat pitching staff shut down the ninth-ranked team in the nation for just eight hits and walked away with its second-straight win over the Baylor Bears in a 7-2 victory Wednesday night at Baylor Ballpark.

Texas State improves to 28-10 on the season and Baylor falls to 25-14. With the win, Texas State extends its winning streak to eight games.

Garret Carruth held on to a 2-0 lead for three-straight innings in the no-decision. The junior faced 24 batters and struck out three in his 5.2 innings on the mound.

Offensively, the Bobcat attack came early with two runs across in the top of the second. Ben Theriot led off the frame with a single to left field, but the two attempts that followed could not plate the junior. It was nine-hole Jason Martinson who took a 1-0 pitch to right center for his fourth home run of the season and the pair of game-leading RBIs.

Carruth maintained the lead, allowing just four hits in the opening five innings with just finding its way into the outfield. In the bottom of the sixth, Baylor broke through the fire with a solo home run from Shaver Hansen. Aaron Miller followed the knock with a base hit through the left side and stole second base before coming home on an RBI single to deep right field.

Tied at 2-2 in the top of the sixth, Texas State answered immediately with a double down the right line from Martinson and Tyler Sibley backed it with a base hit to the same corner to shift the shortstop to the corner. Atwood laced a single to third base that Raynor Campbell bobbled and Martinson rushed home. With a pair of runners on second and third, Goldschmidt and Spenser Dennis collected RBIs with on a sacrifice fly and base hit, respectively, to give the Bobcats a 5-2 edge.

Theriot grew the lead by two more runs in the top of the ninth with a towering home run over the centerfield wall driving in Keith Prestridge for the victory.

Tyler Brundridge was credited with the win over Baylor for the second time this season. The junior relief pitched 1 1/3 innings and did not surrender a single hit after entering in the sixth. Brundridge struck out a pair in his time on the mound.

Lance Loftin and Michael Russo both pitched an inning of relief to hold off Baylor in the end.

Theriot went 3-for-5 in the outing and Martinson went 3-for-3 to lead Texas State at the plate. Ross Speed took the loss for Baylor after pitching 1/3 of the seventh inning and allowing three runs on two hits.

Texas State will host McNeese State in a three-game Southland Conference series this weekend. First pitch Friday night is set for 6:30 p.m. at Bobcat Field.
