Natchitoches, La. - Alex Newton registered three homers against Northwestern State to help Texas State to a series sweep of the Demons. The Bobcats put up nine runs on the Demons beating NWLA 9-0 on the road. Katie Garnett earned her 13th win of the season, closing out the Demons two games straight. Texas State extends its first place lead in the SLC to four games as they hold a record of 32-14, 19-5 SLC.
Both teams went scoreless until the fourth inning when Ryan Kos singled to left field and McKenzie Baack scored from second.
Tamara Keller led the sixth inning off with a single to left field. Megan Parten registered a double to left center, driving in Keller; followed by a walk by Kristina Tello.
Shortstop Alex Newton hit her third home run of the series when she sent the ball over the left field wall scoring Parten, and Tello for three RBI.
Parten's bat was heating up the field al day as she singled in the top of the seventh recording two RBI on the play, with Keller and Allyce Rother scoring at the plate.
Newton stepped to the plate singling up the middle for her second hit of the game. Lacey Duncan scored on the play, after advancing to third on an error by the shortstop.
The Bobcats outhit the Demons 9-3, while Northwestern State recorded three errors on the day. Katie Garnett earned her sixth straight win and her 13th this season. Garnett pitched 6.0 innings recording 4 strikeouts and allowing zero runs.
Texas State will host the No. 2 ranked Stephen F. Austin in a battle for the Southland Conference crown on Saturday, April 25 in a double header beginning at 1:00pm. Sunday's game will have a start time of 12:00pm.
