Natchitoches, La. - After a strand of game delays and rescheduling due to weather, the Bobcats finally hit the field against Northwestern State. Texas State softball beat Northwestern State in a double header in Natchitoches, La. this afternoon. The Bobcats took control of both games from the beginning as they won the games 8-0 and 3-0. Texas State improves to 31-14, 18-5 SLC, while the Demons fall to 5-37, 3-22 SLC.
Game one was all about Texas State as they tallied at least one hit in every inning to dominate the Demons. Taylor Hall was 2-for-2 and was walked for the 34th time this season to become Texas State's all-time leader in season walks, taking down a record that was held by Ashley Koop for seven years. Alex Newton tallied two home runs in the game, going 2-for-5 with two runs and three RBI.
The Bobcats scored a run in every inning, except innings four and five to grab the win. T. Hall scored the first run of the game on an error by the catcher to give the Bobcats the lead as they never looked back.
Chandler Hall pitched 5.0 innings on the mound to garner her 19th win of the season. The freshman pitcher recorded seven strikeouts, allowing zero runs.
Texas State outhit the Demons 13-4, with both teams committing an error a piece.
Game two was similar to the first game as the Bobcats beat the Demons 3-0. Katie Garnett earned her 12th win of the season, striking out five batters.
Alex Newton started the first inning off with a bunt down the left side. After she stole second, T. Hall stepped to the plate and recorded a single of her own. Newton and T. Hall scored on a C. Hall double to left center.
The Bobcats scored again in the third inning when Newton scored her second run of the game off an error by the catcher.
Texas State hit .333 on the afternoon holding the Demons to a .137 hitting percentage. Seven Bobcats hit .300+, with three of them over .600.
Texas State returns home next weekend when they host Stephen F. Austin on Saturday, April 25 in a double header beginning at 1:00pm. Sunday's game will have a start time of 12:00pm.
