Final Stats

San Marcos, Texas- - The Texas State women's tennis team improved its 2009 season record to 5-4 when the Bobcats bounced back with a 6-1 victory over McNeese State on Sunday at the Bobcat Tennis Complex.

Texas State came into the McNeese State came into the match looking to even its Southland Conference record at 2-2 after suffering a hard-fought 4-3 loss against Lamar on Saturday.

The Bobcats jumped out to a quick 1-0 lead when they won all three doubles matches against McNeese State and never looked back. In the top doubles match, Andrea Giraldo and Lainy Chafitz combined to win their second straight doubles match with an 8-2 victory over Vicki Martinez and Ralitsa Pridopska 8-2. In the number two matchup, Ashley Ellis and Nyssa Peele edged Petra Gudelj and Rocio Frausto 7-6, while Saskia Kruse and Mackenzie Farmer beat Inga Efimenko and Tea Tvrtkovic 8-4.

In singles action, the Bobcats won five of the six matches as Giraldo defeated Pridopska 6-2, 6-3 in the number one match. Ellis won the number two match with a 6-1, 6-3 victory over Vicky Martinez, Lainy Chafitz beat Tea Tvrtkovic 6-1, 6-3 in the number four matchup and Mackenzie Farmer edged Inga Efimenko 4-6, 6-3 and 10-8. Saskia Kruse also won her fifth straight singles match 6-0, 6-3 over Rocio Frausto in the number five singles match.

Petra Gudelj scored McNeese State's only team point in the match as she edged Nyssa Peele 7-6, 6-4.

Texas State returns to action on Thursday, March 14 at noon when the Bobcats play host to UT-Arlington in a Southland Conference match at the Bobcat Tennis Center.
