Bobcat Softball Too Much for Islanders

CORPUS CHRISTI, Texas - Texas State only needed two innings to score eight runs as they beat Texas A&M-Corpus Christi 8-2, to sweep the three-game series over the Islanders. The Bobcats improve to 15-9, 7-2 SLC, while the Islanders fall to 8-17, 0-9 SLC.

The Bobcats tacked on five runs in the second inning to take a 5-0 lead. Leah Boatright got things started with a lead-off walk, followed by a Ryan Kos bunt and a fielder's choice by Allyce Rother to fill the bases. Jenna Emery reached base on an error by the second baseman, which sent both Rother and Kos home. Chandler Hall scored the Bobcats third run if the inning when she scored on a passed ball. McKenzie Baack hit a single up the middle with the bases loaded to collect two RBI as Kristina Tello and Emery scored the Bobcats fourth and fifth runs of the inning and game. The Bobcats had five runs off two hits to end the second.

Texas State went five more innings before getting any more runs on the board. With the scoreboard reading, 5-2 in the top of the seventh the Bobcats started to get the bats swinging one more time to seal the win.

C. Hall singled to right field and advanced to second on the throw, while Kos made it safe to third. A wild pitch by AMCC's Tassin, allowed room for Kos to score at the plate and Hall to make it to third. Tallman came in to pitch for Tassin walking both Tamara Keller and Amye Patrick to load the bases. C. Hall scored on a passed ball by Tassin and Keller advanced to third. A passed ball by Seals sent Keller home for Texas State's third run of the inning.

Texas State finished the game with eight runs on six hits, while committing three errors. AMCC had four hits, two runs and two errors. Chandler Hall was the winning pitcher pitching 4.0 innings, allowing three hits and one run on 17 batters faced. Elizabeth Dennis recorded 3.0 innings on the mound, facing 13 batters, allowing only one hit.

The Bobcats return home on Saturday, March 14 when they host Southeastern Louisana over the weekend. Saturday's double header is set for 1:00 p.m. and 3:00 p.m. They are also set to play at 1:00 p.m. on Sunday.
