Albuquerque, N.M. - Texas State softball took two games from the University of New Mexico in a double header today. In chilly conditions, the Bobcats beat the Lobos 9-8 in the first game and returned in the second game to take it 4-1. Chandler Hall went 3-for-4 today hitting .750 to lead all Bobcats.
In game one, the Bobcats tallied 10 hits and nine runs to win the game. They got off to a 3-0 start when Jenna Emery stepped to the plate sending the ball down the left field line for a double. Emery scored Alex Newton, Taylor Hall and Allison Snow all scored on the play.
In the top of the fourth Newton hit a sacrifice fly to left field scoring C. Hall on the play to give the Bobcats a 4-0 edge. The Lobos responded with two runs in the fourth.
Texas State tacked on five more runs in the fifth to lead the Lobos 9-2. New Mexico scored one run in the fifth to bring the score to 9-3. In a last minute rally, the Lobos batted in five runs in the bottom of the ninth, but came up short as the Bobcats took the win, 9-8.
In game two, with the bases loaded and no outs in the top of the first Chandler Hall hit a sacrifice fly to left field, scoring Kristina Tello at the plate to give the Bobcats a 1-0 lead over the Lobos. Ryan Kos was walked with the bases loaded earning an RBI with Snow scoring.
New Mexico's lone run of the game came on a single to center field in the second that scored a runner from second.
Texas State secured its win with two more runs in the fifth to take a 4-1 win over the Lobos.
Both Chandler Hall and Katie Garnett earned wins on the mound today. C. Hall finished with a batting average of .750. McKenzie Baack was 3-for-6 (.500) tallying two runs and an RBI.
The teams return to the field tomorrow at 2:00pm for the last game of the weekend series.
