Final Stats
SAN MARCOS -
Kyle Livingstone belted his first-career home run and led the Texas State Bobcats to a 12-hit 10-0 run rule decision over the Stephen F. Austin Lumberjacks Saturday afternoon at Bobcat Field.
Texas State improves to 16-8 on the season and 8-3 in Southland Conference play, while SFA drops its fourth-straight game and falls to 7-16 and 2-8, respectively.
Livingstone went 3-for-3 with a pair of runs and three RBIs, including a two-run home in the bottom of the third inning.
Tyler Sibley and Spenser Dennis both finished with two hits and all but one Bobcat starter tacked on a hit for Texas State's tally.
Zach Tritz rebounded from last weekend's loss to Lamar to pitch his fifth complete game and second-career shutout in the seven-inning victory. The senior retired the side in the third, fifth and sixth innings and fanned five of his 25 batters faced.
Texas State scored in all but the fourth inning, beginning with a short trip from Bret Atwood on the base paths in the bottom of the first. The sophomore doubled to left field and an RBI single from Paul Goldschmidt gave Texas State the early lead.
A four-run second inning gave the Bobcats ample cushion for the game. Kyle Kubitza drew a lead-off walk, but Erich Lehmann was tapped for four-straight hits, including an RBI double from Jason Martinson that gave Texas State a 4-0 edge. Goldschmidt grabbed a sacrifice fly to plate Martinson to give Texas State the extra push.
Livingstone's homer in the third paired with three more runs spread throughout the fifth and six innings proved too much for SFA's squad in the decision.
Justin Long was the only Lumberjack to manage two hits.
Lehmann took the loss and falls to 1-3.
Texas State will look for the sweep tomorrow afternoon against SFA. Brian Borski is slated to face Jared Schrom on the mound. First pitch is set for 1 p.m.
