SAN MARCOS - Kyle Kubitza belted his first-career home run and Adam Witek set the all-time career stolen bases record to highlight the Texas State Bobcats 10-4 victory over the Texas Tech Red Raiders Wednesday night at Bobcat Field.

This marks the third-straight meeting Texas State has took from the Big 12 foe and with the win, the team improves to 14-8 overall. Texas Tech drops to 10-15 on the season with the loss.

Matt Steiner was credited with his first win after pitching 5.0 sound innings. The freshman allowed just one run on four hits, while striking out three batters.

Steiner shut down the Red Raiders in the top of the first before a 30 minute weather delay halted the game.

Texas State jumped right back into action and put up a five-run cushion to take the early lead.

Bret Atwood hit a one-out single and two batters later Keith Prestridge drove him in on a single laced through the right side. A sacrifice fly from Ben Theriot scored Paul Goldschmidt who reached on a walk, but it was Kubitza's three-run homer that followed that crowned the frame.

Tech was held scoreless for the next two innings and answered in the top of the fourth with a single run. But Texas State tacked on two runs to close out the inning for a 7-1 edge.

Jason Martinson doubled down the left field chalk line and shifted to third on a single from Tyler Sibley. Sibley was caught stealing, but Atwood drew a walk in the next at-bat to replace him on the base paths. Goldschmidt followed with a hard-hitting single to short, but Joey Kentworthy tossed a wild throw to first base that gave Martinson the chance to score. Prestridge grabbed his final RBI of the night with a sacrifice fly to plate Atwood and Jordan Stern forced a ground out to retire the inning.

Three runs sprinkled over the fifth, sixth and seventh innings supplied the Bobcats with a 10-2 lead and two runs in the top of the eighth from the Red Raiders would not be enough to hold off the rush.

Witek heightened the seventh with a lead-off single followed by his 47th career stolen base, a mark that tops the all-time Texas State record book.

For the game, Texas State recorded 12 hits, with Atwood, Dennis and Witek all notching multi-hit games.

Taylor Ashby led the Red Raiders at the plate, going 3-for-4 with two runs scored and an RBI.

Texas State will conclude its five-game homestand this weekend when they play host to Stephen F. Austin Friday, Saturday and Sunday in a Southland Conference series. First pitch Friday night is set for 6:30 p.m.
