SAN MARCOS, Texas - Texas State played in its first extra inning game of the season and came out on top when freshman pitcher Chandler Hall hit a single to left field, scoring Tamara Keller on the play. The Bobcats complete a three-game sweep of Central Arkansas, as they won 1-0 (8) this afternoon. Texas State's record improves to 22-11, 14-4 SLC, while UCA falls to 15-7, 6-6 SLC.
The Bobcats and Bears battled through seven straight innings without anyone scoring a run. Entering the eighth inning the Bears had tallied just one hit, which was a first base bunt in the second inning by Jessie Essary.
Central Arkansas went three-up, three-down in the top of the eighth as C. Hall struck out all three batters; Essary swinging and Amber Jolly and Luisa Escobar both were caught looking.
Jenna Emery led off the eighth inning with a double to left field to put the winning run on base. Keller entered to pinch run for Emery and advanced to third on a sacrifice bunt by Ryan Kos. C. Hall stepped up to the plate and with a 1-2 count she hit the ball to left field to score the game winning run.
The Bobcats finished the game with one run on six hits and one error, while the Bears had zero runs, one hit and no errors. C. Hall faced 27 batters, recording nine strikeouts and just one hit in eight innings on the mound for her 14th win and fifth shutout of the season.
Texas State returns to Bobcat Field when they host UTEP on Wednesday, March 25 at 2:00pm in non-conference play. Wednesday's game will be the first meeting between the two teams.
