SAN MARCOS - Ryan Testa pitched seven solid innings and held the Texas State Bobcats to just six hits Friday night, leading the Lamar Cardinals to an 8-1 victory over the team at Vincent-Beck Stadium in game one of the weekend series.

Texas State shifts to 4-3 in Southland Conference action and 10-8 overall, while Lamar improves to 5-2 and 16-5, respectively.

A home run from lead-off Tyler Link gave the Cardinals their first run, while Testa did work on the mound retiring seven of the Bobcats first 10 batters to hold the team scoreless.

In the top of the fourth, Texas State broke through with a bases-loaded ground out from Ben Theriot. Designated hitter Spenser Dennis reached on a fielder's choice before scoring and stole second base before the right-hander walked Lance Loftin to put him on the corner.

Lamar shattered the tie with a four-run attack in the bottom half of the frame. A single and a pair of walks gave the Cardinals a full plate, and on two outs Ryan Saldivar cleared the load with a double to left field. The catcher came home for the final run on a double from Brian Taylor.

The foe added two more runs in the bottom of the seventh to spread the margin, while James Brandhorst and CoryHolley tossed two innings of scoreless relief to aid Testa on the mound.

Cody Gambill went 2-for-3 at the plate along with a 2-for-4 performance from Theriot to lead Texas State at the plate.

Tyler Sibley and Paul Goldschmidt tallied the final two hits for the team. Lamar out-hit Texas State 12-6.
