THIBODAUX, La. - The Texas State softball team battled Nicholls to a 2-1 loss this afternoon at Colonel Softball Complex in Thibbodaux, La. The Bobcats held a one run lead until late in the sixth inning, when the Colonels were able to get two runs on the board for the win. Texas State's record moves to 19-11, 11-4 SLC. Nicholls is now 21-11, 11-4 SLC.
The Bobcats took the field this afternoon with a drive to win. In the first inning the Bobcats saw two straight batters reach base on Colonel errors. Texas State took advantage of Nicholls as McKenzie Baack stepped up to the plate and hammered a ball to deep center field sending Alex Newton home for a 1-0 lead in the first.
After going five innings with zero runs scored by either team, with two outs in the bottom of the sixth Lyndsay Mesh hit a double to left field driving in Kara Harington and Danielle Clayton
Chandler Hall was busy on the mound today as she pitched seven innings collecting seven strikeouts in 24 batters faced. Hall snaps a six game win streak on the mound.
Texas State finished the game with four hits and one run, on one error. The Colonels had two errors, with four hits and two runs.
Texas State returns home on Saturday, March 21 as they host the Sugar Bears of Central Arkansas in a double header beginning at 1:00pm. On Sunday, the teams will play one game starting at 12:00pm.
