THIBODAUX, La. - Texas State Softball traveled to Thibodaux, La. today to play a double header with the Nicholls Colonels. The Bobcats captured the first game 5-1, but fell in the second, 0-2. Texas State's record moves to 19-10, 11-3 SLC.
In the first game of today's double header versus Nicholls, the Texas State Bobcats came out slow before catching a rhythm. The Bobcats got on the board first in the top of the third when Kristina Tello scored at the plate on an error by the second baseman Danielle Clayton.
The Colonels scored their only run of the game in the bottom of the third when Audrey Wood singled to right field, driving in Megan Gaspard.
Ryan Kos hit a solo homer to deep center in the fourth to give the Bobcats a 2-1 edge over the Colonels.
With two outs in the top of the seventh Texas State saw a double to right center by Leah Boatright that sent Tello, Alex Newton and McKenzie Baack all home. The Bobcats grabbed the win with a final score on, 5-1.
Chandler Hall won the battle on the mound as she earned her sixth straight win of the season improving her record to 12-4.
The Bobcats out-hit the Colonels, 6-3. Texas State committed two errors and Nicholls one.
In game two, Kodi Butler gave Nicholls the first run of the game when Logan Johnson hit a single to deep right center scoring Butler in from second. Lyndsay Mesh hit a single down the right field line to send Megan Gaspard home, giving the Colonels a 2-0 lead.
Nicholls was able to hold on to the lead, as they went on to win the game, 2-0. Batting statistics for both teams were close and low as both teams' tallied three hits.
Both teams will hit the field again tomorrow at 1:00pm for the last game in this three-game series between the two teams.
