SAN MARCOS - Sam Houston State exploded for five runs in the top of the ninth to tie the game and added eight more in the tenth inning en route to a 17-10 win over the Texas State baseball team Sunday afternoon at Bobcat Field.

With the win, Sam Houston claims 2-of-3 games from Texas State and improves to 12-5 overall and 5-1 in the Southland Conference. Texas State drops to 10-6 and 4-2, respectively.

The Bobcats held a 7-1 lead heading into the sixth inning. Designated hitter Spenser Dennis laced a two-RBI single in the bottom of the first through the right side with the bases loaded to score Tyler Sibley and Bret Atwood. The pair of leadoffs reached base on a pair of base hits.

Sam Houston countered with one run in the top of the second, but the Texas State answered on an RBI single from Keith Prestridge. The new DH connected with Laurn Randell for the only two hits of the inning and sent the right fielder across the plate with his knock to left field.

The Bobcats big inning came in the bottom of the fourth working with just one out. Ryan Tepera walked Sibley and hit Paul Goldschmidt with a pitch before Prestridge lit a base hit up the middle to load the bases. Adam Witek followed on his lone hit of the day with a two-RBI single to right field.

Tepera failed to pick off Witek stealing second base and the wild throw allowed Prestridge to come home and Kyle Livingstone single through the right side on the next play to plate Witek.

Down six runs, the Bearkats used three hits for three runs in the top of the sixth to trim the gap and the Bobcats went to its bullpen.

Starting pitcher Brian Borski left the game after 5.1 innings in the no-decision, allowing four runs off eight hits. The sophomore struck out six batters on the day.

But Borski was just one of ten pitchers Sam Houston State saw on the mound. The Bobcat relief combined for 4.2 innings and allowed 13 earned runs off 12 hits.

Garret Carruth took the loss and is now 0-1 on the season. Goldschmidt went 2-for-3 with a single RBI along with Prestridge's three hits to lead the Bobcats at the plate.

Sam Houston State tallied 20 hits over Texas State, while the Bobcats recorded 16 hits.

The Bobcats will look to rebound from the loss Wednesday night when they host the Baylor Bears. First pitch is set for 6:30 p.m.
