SAN MARCOS, Texas - The Texas State softball team opened up action against Southeastern Louisiana today with a 10-1 win in five innings. The Bobcats improve to 16-9, 8-2 SLC, while the Lady Lions fall to 8-13, 0-7 SLC. Leah Boatright and Ryan Kos both went 3-for-3 on the day with three runs.
Leah Boatright hit her fourth homerun of the season and her first in conference play after nailing a ball deep over the left field wall. Ryan Kos hit a double to left field followed by a single to right field by Allyce Rother. A bunt by Jenna Emery sent Kos home for the Bobcats second run of the day. Rother later scored on a passed ball to give Texas State a 3-0 lead at the bottom of the second.
The Lady Lions got on the board after Allyson McCubbins hit a single down the left line in the top of the third to send Tamra Ladnier home.
With the Bobcats carrying a 3-0 lead they tacked more runs on to the board when McKenzie Baack, Boatright and Kos all singled to load the bases. Chandler Hall stepped to the plate and flied out to center field, with Baack scoring on the tag up. Jenna Emery walked to load the bases for the second time of the inning. Kristina Tello singled up the middle to send Boatright home. Alex Newton stepped up to the plate hitting a double to left field scoring Emery and Kos to give the Bobcats a 7-1 lead.
Baack and Boatright singled to begin the fourth inning. An error by the first baseman on a Chandler Hall hit sent Baack and Boatright running home. Kos scored the Bobcats tenth and final run of the game after Emery hit a single up the middle.
Texas State out hit Southeastern La. 14-5. The Lady Lions committed two errors to the Bobcats zero. Chandler Hall earned the win pitching 4.0 innings, allowing five hits and only one earned run. She tallied six strikeouts on the day.
Baack finished the game going 2-for-3 with two runs. Newton had two RBI on 2-for-3 at the plate, while Emery went 2-for-2 with two RBI and one run.
Both teams return to Bobcat Field tomorrow with a double header. Game times are scheduled for 10:00 a.m. and 12:00 p.m.
