DELAND, Fla. - Kristina Tello went a perfect 3-for-3 this morning as she helped lead the Texas State Bobcat Softball team to a 7-2 victory over Bethune-Cookman in its final game of the Stetson Lead-Off Classic at Patricia Wilson Field in DeLand, Fla.
BC managed to get on the scoreboard first with a run in the bottom of the first, but after that the Bobcats started to take control. Tello scored Texas State's first run after she singled to first base. A single up the middle by McKenzie Baack drove Tello home.
At the top of the fifth lead-off hitter Tello got things started with a double to left field. Alex Newton followed with a single up the middle driving Tello home. Leah Boatright hit her second homerun of the tournament as the Bobcats went up 4-1 in the fifth.
The momentum kept going for the Bobcats as Tello singled to third base in Texas State first at-bat of the sixth. Back-to-back doubles by Boatright and McKenzie Baack sent Tello and Boatright home giving Texas State the 7-2 advantage.
Texas State held of BC to come away with the 7-2 win. The Bobcats tallied seven runs and 14 hits on the day. Tello led all Bobcats going a perfect 3-for-3, including three runs. Boatright went 2-for-3 with two runs and three RBI. Baack finished with three RBI on 2-for-3 hitting.
The Bobcats improve to 2-3 on the season and the Wildcats fall to 1-4. Texas State will return to the field on Wednesday, Feb. 11 when they travel up I-35 to play the University of Texas at 5 p.m.
