Box Score

DELAND, Fla. - Leah Boatright went 3-for-4, including a home run in the seventh inning Saturday afternoon at the Stetson Lead-Off Classic, but a six-run by Bethune-Cookman was too much to overcome as Texas State fell to the Wildcats 8-3.

BC scored two in first inning after Ashton Hinds was hit by a pitch to open the game. A sacrifice bunt shifted the runner and Celsey Tafoya notched the first RBI with a single to right field.

Tafoya helped the Wildcats to a 3-0 lead in the bottom of the third after notching the first hit of the inning with a two-base knock to right center. Backed by a single and an error on Texas State's end, the unearned run came across.

Meanwhile, five innings went by before Texas State could score and BC had pulled ahead by six, thanks to a three-run fifth inning.

At the top of the sixth, McKenzie Baack came through with her first hit of the night, putting a single up the middle and the bats stayed hot with base hits from Ali McCormack and Taylor Hall to follow. But Baack crossed for the `Cats first run when a fielding error by the first baseman plated the junior.

Texas State's defense couldn't hold the Wildcats in the bottom of the sixth and BC tacked on its final two runs.

Boatright slammed her homer with one out in the top of the seventh and Baack came across the plate on a single through the left side from Hall after reaching on a double. But two outs followed to hold off the Bobcats charge.

Texas State is 1-3 on the season and Bethune Cookman improves to 1-2. Both teams will play again tomorrow at 10 a.m. in the consolation game.
