Softball Splits Double Header with McNeese State

SAN MARCOS, Texas - The Texas State softball team opened up action against the McNeese State Cowgirls in its first Southland Conference home game of the season. The two teams split the wins on the day as Texas State won the first game 4-2 and the Cowgirls took the second game 4-3. The Bobcats are now 12-7, 4-1 SLC, while McNeese State is 8-14, 4-1 SLC.

McNeese State got on the board first in the fourth inning scoring two runs, but Texas State faught back scoring four runs over the next three innings to take the win. Taylor Hall scored off a double from Chandler Hall to bring the score to 1-2. Allyce Rother knocked a triple to right center in the fifth scoring the Bobcats second run of the day. Jenna Emery hit a double up the middle to score Leah Boatright in the sixth. Emery scored the Bobcats last run to lead them to a 4-2 win over McNeese State.

The Bobcats took a 1-0 led in the bottom of the third in the second game, as Alex Newton stole home for the score. Two innings later Kristina Tello singled to right center and Taylor Hall came up two bats later to single up the middle and advance to second on the throw. Chandler Hall singled up the middle driving Tello home. The Bobcats served the Cowgirls a trick play on the next run as C. Hall stole second and advanced to third on the throw as T. Hall scored at home.

McNeese State battled back in the sixth batting off four runs to give themselves the lead and the eventual win. Texas State out-hit McNeese State .259 to .218. Ryan Kos went 3-for-6 on the day for a batting average of .500. Newton finished 3-for-7 for .429. C. Hall earned her seventh win of the season and her fourth straight.

Both teams return to the field tomorrow at 12 noon to close out the series.
