ARLINGTON, Texas - The Texas State softball team beat UT Arlington 5-0 to sweep the Lady Mavericks over the three-game series. The Bobcats improve to 11-6, 3-0 SLC. Texas State was led by freshman pitcher Chandler Hall who went 3-for-4 from the plate and securing the win on the mound.
The Bobcats got things going in the top of the fourth when C. Hall belted a triple to center field to get things going. Ryan Kos laced a double to center field, as C. Hall scored on the hit to give Texas State a 1-0 lead.
In the top of the seventh Kristina Tello came in to pinch run for Allison Snow and made it to third on a hit by Alex Newton. Leah Boatright singled to left field driving in Tello for the RBI. With the bases loaded C.Hall continued the Bobcats dominance in the seventh when she singled to center field sending Newton home. Jenna Emery was hit by a pitch on the next play, which sent T. Hall home for the Bobcats third and final run of the game.
C. Hall earned her third straight win taking her to 6-2 overall on the mound. She pitched 7.0 innings allowing four hits, while serving up seven strikeouts and no walks. At the plate she recorded a double, triple, RBI and a run in route to the Bobcats win this afternoon.
Newton finished the day 3-for-4, while scoring her eighth run on the day.
Texas State finished the game with four runs on 11 hits and no errors. UTA tallied four hits and one error. The Bobcats earned their fourth straight win.
The Bobcats return home this weekend when they host McNeese State on Saturday, Feb. 28 - Mar. 1. Saturday's double header is set for 1pm and 3pm. Game time on Sunday is 12 noon.
