FRISCO, Texas - The Texas State softball team beat UT Arlington in the first of two games of a double header this afternoon. The Bobcats beat the Lady Mavericks 5-0 to take the first of three games in the series. Texas State improves to 9-6, while the Lady Mavs fall to 4-9. Third baseman Jenna Emery went 2-for-2, including two doubles, an RBI and a run.
The Bobcats got things going in the second inning when Emery hit a double to left center to get things started. Kristina Tello singled to left field driving in Emery. Next up to bat was shortstop Alex Newton who singled and advanced to second on the throw, while Tello ran home to score the Bobcats second run of the game.
In the top of the third Leah Boatright advanced to first on a bunt. Emery came behind her to notch her second double of the day and RBI as Boatright made it safe to the plate.
Leading off the fifth inning was Taylor Hall who doubled to left field to get it going. McKenzie Baack singled to right field as Hall scored the Bobcats fourth run of the game. Ryan Kos singled to right field and Boatright scored at the plate to give the Bobcats a 5-0 lead and the win.
Texas State finished the game with five runs on nine hits, while committing one error. The Bobcats held the Lady Mavericks to three hits and zero runs.
Chandler Hall earned her fifth win of the season, improving her record to, 5-2. She pitched 6.0 innings, allowing only one hit and tallying nine strikeouts.
