Texas State Softball Leaves Northern Iowa in the Dust

FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE February 22, 2008 Contact: Denise Thompson, Assistant Sports Information Director Dt24@txstate.edu 512.245.2988 (o) 512.216.3440 (c) BATON ROUGE, La. - Texas State softball takes down Northern Iowa 3-0 in the first round of championship play in the Easton Purple and Gold Challenge. The Bobcats advance to the championship game in which they will play LSU. Texas State improves its record to 8-6.

Texas State seemed to be under control this morning as its defense kept every ball in sight. They had a small pile up in the bottom of the third, but Chandler Hall recovered as the Bobcats were able to escape without any runs being scored.

Leah Boatright responded with a single to left field to start the fourth inning. MacKenzie Baack had a sacrifice bunt to advance Boatright to second, before she made it to third on a wild pitch. Ryan Kos notched her second RBI of the season when she hit a single to left center with Boatright scoring at home.

Allison Snow came in at the top of the fourth to pinch hit with two outs on the board for the Bobcats. She hit a double to deep right center to get Texas State going. Alex Newton batted next coming up with a triple to center field that sent Snow home. The Bobcats weren't done yet as Taylor Hall hit a single to left field, scoring Newton. Texas State scored two runs on three hits to end the seventh.

Texas State finished the game with three runs on nine hits, while committing zero errors. The Bobcats held the Panthers to four hits and zero runs.

C. Hall was the winning pitcher of the game earning her fourth win. Hall served up 71 strikes, four strikeouts and zero runs.

Texas State will play LSU 3:45pm in the championship game of the Easton Purple and Gold Challenge.
