HOUSTON, Texas - Texas State Softball knocks off No. 14 Houston, 2-0, to close out the Houston Marriott Plaza Classic, being held at the Cougar Softball Stadium. The Bobcats improve to 5-4 on the season before returning to San Marcos to open up home play. Houston falls to 4-3.
The Bobcats got on the board in the second inning with Kristina Tello scoring the winning run. A single by Taylor Hall sent Tello home to give Texas State the 1-0 edge.
Tamara Keller scored the Bobcats final run of the game after coming into the game to pinch run for Chandler Hall. Keller scored on a Tello single to right field.
Texas State had seven hits for two runs and no errors in its first win against a ranked opponent this season. The Bobcats are now 1-1 against ranked opponents.
C. Hall tallied her second win of the tournament after pitching all seven innings, allowing only two hits, while committing zero errors and recording seven strikeouts.
The Bobcats end the tournament 2-1, posting wins over the No. 14 Houston Cougars
and the Oklahoma State Cowgirls. They will open up home play in the newly renovated Bobcat Stadium on Wednesday, Feb. 18 at 6:00pm versus the Texas A&M Aggies.
