Women's Tennis Falls To North Texas

San Marcos, Texas- - The Texas State women's tennis team had a two-game winning streak snapped when the Bobcats suffered a 5-2 loss against North Texas at the Bobcat Tennis Complex on Sunday afternoon.

Texas State entered the match having won two straight matches against St. Edward's University last Thursday and UT-Pan American on Saturday in their first two home matches of the season.

But, North Texas took the early lead in the match as the Madura Ranganathan and Irina Paraschiv combined to beat Andrea Giraldo and Lainy Chafitz in the top doubles match 8-4.

Texas State won the number two doubles match as Ashley Ellis and Nyssa Peele combined to win their second straight doubles match-up 8-3.

North Texas captured the doubles point with its second double win as Amy Joubert and Karen Wilhelm beat Kiki Kruse and Mackenzie Farmer 8-5.

In singles play, Texas State scored a pair of points when Ashley Ellis defeated Madura Ranganathan 6-3 and 7-6 after winning a tie-breaker in the second set 7-4. With the win, Ellis improves her dual match record to 4-1 this spring.

Kruse also evened her season record to 2-2 after she posted a 6-4, 6-3 victory over Narine Kazarova. North Texas posted four wins in singles play as Irene Paraschiv beat Giraldo in the top singles match-up 6-1, 6-0. Paula Dinuta defeated Nyssa Peele 6-1, 6-0, while Catalina Cruz defeated Lainy Chafitz 6-1, 5-7, 6-2 and Amy Joubert defeated Mackenzie Farmer 6-4, 6-0.
