Texas State Falls in Near Upset over No.7 Oklahoma

HOUSTON, Texas - Texas State Softball falls to No. 7 Oklahoma 3-2 in its second game of the Marriott Houston Classic. The Bobcats rallied back in the sixth inning, but couldn't put enough up on the scoreboard to come away with the win. Alex Newton went 2-for-3 with one run on the day. The Bobcats record is now, 4-4.

After waiting a whole day to play due to rainouts, Texas State finally hit the field against Oklahoma. With both teams going scoreless through the first-three innings it became a battle of who would score first.

Oklahoma got on the board first when they scored three runs in the fourth to pull ahead of Texas State 3-0. Flores scored the Sooners first run after Trott grounded out to third. One batter later and a single up the middle saw the Sooners up.

The Bobcats made a move in the sixth when Newton doubled and later scored when Leah Boatright advanced to first on an error by shortstop, then made it to second on the throw. Shekia Knight also made it home on the play.

Texas State had two runs, two hits and three errors in the game. Katie Garnett (2-2) pitched 3.2 innings, allowing three runs, three hits and notching three strikeouts.
