HOUSTON, Texas- After a day of rainouts the Texas State Softball team responded with a 5-1 win over Oklahoma State this morning in their first game of the Houston Marriott Classic.
The Bobcats scored four runs in the first inning with Alex Newton leading the way. The lead-off batter was hit by a pitch and advanced to second on a stolen base. Leah Boatright homered with Newton on third sending both of them to the plate putting the Bobcats up 2-0 to start the game.
McKenzie Baack was the second Bobcat hit by a pitch in the first inning putting her on first base. Jenna Emery singled to shortstop and Baack made her way to third after a throwing error by shortstop. Chandler Hall singled driving in both Baack and Emery to give Texas State a 4-0 lead in the first.
Emery scored again in the third after doubling to left field then advancing to home on an RBI by C. Hall.
The Cowgirls scored their only run of the game in the sixth inning, but they couldn’t catch a rhythm to pass by the Bobcats.
Texas State finished the game with five runs, six hits and no errors. This is the second straight game that the Bobcats have not committed any errors.
Boatright finished 2-for-4 this morning, with two RBI, one hit and her third homerun of the season. Emery also went 2-for-4, with two runs on the day.
C.Hall earned her second straight win as she pitched five innings allowing only six hits, one run and tallying five strikeouts.
Texas State is set to play again at 5:00pm today as they face North Carolina State.
