San Marcos, Texas- - J.B. Conley and John Bowman came off the bench to score 14 points each and lead four players in double figures as the Texas State men's basketball team used a pair of decisive runs in the opening period and held on for a 95-70 victory over Texas Lutheran Tuesday night in Strahan Coliseum.

"I don't think there is a lot of drop off from our first group to our second and we used our depth to wear them down," said Texas State head coach Doug Davalos. "There are some things we need to correct, but I thought our full-court defense was pretty good."

The two teams were tied at 9-9 in the first four minutes of the game before Texas Lutheran scored seven straight points to take a 16-9 lead with 15:42 left in the first half. Richard Dantzler led the rally as he scored four points on a pair of lay-ups and hit Brad Howard on the right wing for a three-point field goal.

Texas State trailed 22-17 with 10:55 left in the opening period before the Bobcats responded with a 13-0 run to take control of the game. Ryan White and Cameron Johnson scored four points each, and White hit John Rybak for a three-pointer in the rally.

White's lay-up with 10:09 left in the first half gave Texas State its first lead in the game at 24-22. The Bobcats continued their run with a pair of free throws by White, a lay-up by Johnson and Tony Bishop's jumper from the free throw line to take a 30-22 lead.

After Isaac Williams pulled Texas Lutheran to within six, Texas State seized control of the game with another 14-0 run as Johnson capped the rally by scoring six straight points to give the Bobcats a 44-24 lead with 5:45 left in the opening period.

Texas State went on to lead 58-37 at halftime as Johnson and White scored 11 points and Jonathan Sloan netted 10 points in the opening period. In the second half, Texas Lutheran scored the first seven points in the period as Williams scored four points in the paint on a lay-up and jump shot and Michael Flores nailed a three-point basket as the Bulldogs climbed back to within 58-44.

After Texas State called timeout, Bowman entered the game for the first time and scored a lay-up for the first points in the second half by the Bobcats. Then, Bowman hit Roshun Jackson for a dunk shot on a fast break and nailed a three-pointer from the right baseline. After Texas Lutheran pulled to within 13 points (68-55) with 10:39 left to play, Bowman scored five more points on a three-point field goal and a slam dunk that ignited Texas State's offense and gave the Bobcats a 73-55 lead with 9:58 left to play.

The Bulldogs climbed back to within 15 twice before J.B. Conley scored four points and Emmanuel Bidias A' Moute added two more to give the Bobcats an 81-60 lead with 5:46 left in the game.

The Bobcats went on to pull away with the 95-70 victory.

The win improves Texas State's record to 4-8, with all four wins coming in Strahan Coliseum, while Texas Lutheran fell to 2-7 this season. The win closes out the 2009 calendar year for the Bobcats as they open up 2010 with a home game against SMU on Saturday, Jan. 2 at 4:00 p.m.
