Final Stats
Ft. Collins, Colorado -
Kim Mestdagh and Bonnie Barbee combined for 39 points and led Colorado State to a 66-54 win over Texas State Friday night at the Coors Rocky Mountain Invitational inside Moody Coliseum.
The Bobcats (2-2) will face Houston (3-3) at 6 p.m. Saturday in the consolation game. Houston fell to Delaware earlier this afternoon in a 72-43 decision.
Texas State shot a season-low 26 percent (17-65), with only three players finishing with more than one basket. Victoria Davis led the team with 10 points and five rebounds, while Aimee Hilburn chipped in nine points and team-high eight boards.
Texas State doubled CSU's points in the paint with 24 and led on the boards, 51-44.
The Lady Rams finished shooting 36 percent and 40 percent from three-point range. Colorado State's 11-for-28 effort from behind the arc tied the most three-pointers Texas State has allowed in a game.
Both Texas State and CSU got off to a slow start as two minutes ticked off the clock before either team scored. Bonnie Barbee gave the Lady Rams two points in the paint, and Chika Ofoegbu sank a free throw for the Bobcats. It wasn't until 15:16 when CSU built a 7-3 lead, that Victoria Davis drove hard to goal for a layup and started a 7-4 run for the Bobcats to break into double digits.
A three-minute silence followed and a pair of three-pointers from Colorado State broke open the lull for a 17-11 Ram lead, but at 5:44 a layup from Kelsey Krupa pushed Texas State on an 7-1 run capped by a Stephanie Douthit three-pointer to knot the game at 18 apiece.
CSU countered with three-straight baskets from behind the arc and Texas State could only counter with a pair of jumpers from Ofoegbu and Diamond Ford.
A 4-0 run ended the half and Texas State went into the break down eight points, 30-22.
Out of the break, Lacey Klause put the team on her back and dropped six points by the 16:00 mark. Two more from Anna Brzozowski had Texas State a possession away from tying the game, but a Barbee three gave CSU a 35-30 lead. Only Davis kept the charge going and a fastbreak layup followed by a jumper from Megan Homan had Texas State one-point away.
One point was as close as Texas State would come, as CSU shot 40 percent in the second half, including a 6-of-14 effort from three-point range.
Following the Coors Rocky Mountain Invitational, Texas State will travel to Lubbock, Texas to face Texas Tech Wednesday night at 8 p.m.
