Basketball Opens Season Friday with Fandemonium at Strahan

SAN MARCOS - Bobcat basketball tips off the 2009-2010 season this Friday, Nov. 13 at Strahan Coliseum. The women's and men's team will host a double-header, beginning at 5:30 p.m. and fans are encouraged to take part in Bobcat Basketball Fandemonium.

Tailgating opens at 4 p.m. with entertainment provided by the Hip-Hop Congress. The Texas State Pep Band and Strutters will be on hand for halftime performances, as well.

The women's basketball team will face Texas College at 5:30 p.m. in the two teams first-ever meeting. The Lady Steers will be coming off a Thursday night decision at Dallas Baptist before taking on the Bobcats Friday night.

Head coach Suzanne Fox begins her 13th season at the helm of the women's basketball program and 18th year overall. Under Fox's leadership, the Bobcats are 158-184 overall.

Texas State is led by seniors Victoria Davis, Tamarra Evans-Sluga, Aimee Hilburn and Megan Homan. Davis was named to the 2009-10 Preseason All-Southland Conference second team, averaging 9.3 points and 4.5 rebounds last year.

In the SLC Preseason polls, Texas State was picked to finish fourth in the league's sports information director's poll and fifth in the head coaches poll. The Bobcats ended their 2008-09 campaign with a 12-16 overall record and a 6-10 mark against the league.

Following the women's game, the Texas State men's basketball team will take on Howard Payne.
