Final Stats
SAN MARCOS -
After opening Southland Conference play on a four-game winning streak, the Texas State Bobcats extended the mark to five-straight games with a 2-0 win over the Lamar Lady Cardinals Friday night at the Bobcat Soccer Complex.
With the win, Texas State improves to 8-5 on the season and 3-0 in league play. Lamar drops to 1-10-1 overall and 0-3-0 in the Southland Conference.
The Bobcats came out of the gate slow on a cold night, but found a way to break the ice in the 23rd minute of the first half. Britney Curry took a pass from Erica Michaud and went one-on-one with Lady Cardinal goalkeeper Jennifer Gibbs until netting the goal from about 25 yards out.
The goal marked Curry's 11th of the season and 32nd of her career, now placing her as the No. 1 all-time goal scorer in Texas State history.
After halftime, Texas State continued to be aggressive, narrowly missing two more shots from Curry that hit the post. Taylor Person recovered the close marks after taking a cross and scoring her first-career goal at 68:36.
The Bobcats outshot the Lady Cardinals 12-1, and Texas State's defense held off the lone shot until the final minutes of the second half.
This marks Texas State's third-straight shutout and eighth of the season.
"(The shutouts) are definitely not just Mandi (Mawyer) or the backline, but the entire team," said head coach Kat Conner. "We work on it all the time at practice and they really put forth the effort tonight. I'm very proud of the team."
Texas State hosts McNeese State Sunday, Oct. 11 at 1 p.m. The Bobcats lead the all-time series with the Cowgirls, 14-5-1.
