BEAUMONT, Texas - Texas State volleyball unable to come out on top versus Lamar as they fell to the Cardinals 3-0, this afternoon at McDonald Gym. The Bobcats drop their record to 8-11, 2-2 in the SLC.
The first set seemed to be going good for Texas State as it started out 3-0 after a Cardinal attack error and back-to-back kills from Amber Calhoun and Mo Middleton. Lamar responded bringing the set score to 4-4. Lamar led the rest of the way, not giving up any leads to take the set 25-18. Texas State was limited to just nine kills in the set, which resulted in .091 hitting for the set.
Errors continued to hurt the Bobcats in the second as they hit below .200 for the second set. Texas State came close at the 18-19 mark, when Jillian Wolpman nailed a kill past the Cardinal defense. Unfortunately, Lamar's momentum pushed them past the Bobcats to go up 2-0 after a 25-20 set win.
The Bobcats gave the Cardinals a fight in the third set, but Lamar managed to escape with a 29-27 edge over Texas State to take the set and the sweep.
Jessica Weynand finished the match with eight kills (.375) and seven digs. Caleigh McCorquodale registered 10 assists and nine digs.
Lauren Holdorff led Lamar with 10 kills on .286 hitting. Lamar improves its record to 8-7, 3-1 SLC.
Texas State returns home as it will host UT Arlington on Friday, Oct. 9 at 6:30pm at Strahan Coliseum in its Dig Pink match. Anyone wearing pink will be eligible for a discounted $2 ticket for admission into the match.
