Texas State Volleyball Sweeps Nicholls

SAN MARCOS, Texas - Texas State hit .340 in a sweep pass Nicholls tonight at Strahan Coliseum for their second straight win. Jessica Weynand and Mo Middleton each registered 10 kills as they helped the Bobcats improve to 11-12, 5-3 in SLC.

Weynand and Melinda Cave both registered four kills in the first set, as Texas State outhit Nicholls .293 to -.023. The Bobcats rallied to a 20-17 edge after tying the set up at 15-All. Texas State went on to outscore the Colonels 5-1 to take the set.

Thanks to some handy serving by Ally Buitron the Bobcats jumped out to a 4-0 lead to start the second. Texas State went on a seven point run to move to take a 22-8 lead, with help from Matti Schumacher who tallied three kills and a block assist during the run. The Bobcats went on to win the set 25-11, going up two on the Colonels after hitting .469 in the set.

Nicholls scored the first point in the third for its only lead of the set. Texas State bounced back to score three points and go up 3-1. With only three ties in the third, Texas State took the lead at 7-6 and never looked back. With effort from the whole team Texas State won the set 25-15 to capture its seventh straight over the Colonels.

Weynand finished the match with 10 kills (.385) and nine digs. Middleton had 10 kills (.261) and six digs, while Shelbi Irvin had 16 assists and eight digs. The Bobcats recorded 45 kills and 54 digs to outhit the Colonels who finished the match with 20 kills on .000 hitting.

Nicholls drops to 9-13, 3-5 in the SLC. Texas State improves its all-time series versus Nicholls to 30-8.

Texas State returns to the court on Saturday, Oct. 24 at 2:00pm as they host Southeastern La. at Strahan Coliseum.
