Soccer Opens Southland Conference Action with Shutout

Conway, Arkansas - The Texas State women's soccer team opened Southland Conference action with a pair of goals over Central Arkansas to start the season undefeated, taking a a 2-0 win at Farris Field Friday afternoon over the Bears.

The Bobcats offense acted quickly, putting a goal away within the first seven minutes for a 1-0 lead. Britney Curry connected with Erica Michaud for her sixth goal of the season and Texas State entered the half with the lead.

At 47:32, Curry notched another assist, connecting with Maddie Piranio for her first goal of the season to seal the win. Piranio caught keeper Kelsey Gochnauer out of position and punched in the goal to seal Texas State's victory.

Texas State outshot UCA 13-6, and the Bobcats defense held the Bears to just six shots, none of which fell on goal.

Tonight's win ended a four-game win streak for Central Arkansas.

The Bobcats will move on from tonight's decision to face Northwestern State Sunday afternoon. The Lady Demons fell to UTSA 4-2 tonight in their conference opener.
