SAN MARCOS, Texas - Texas State knocks off Northwestern State on the road as it beat the Lady Demons 3-1 (25-20, 25-23, 24-26, 25-20) in Natchitoches, La. this afternoon. The Bobcats improve to 10-12, 4-3 in SLC action.

AJ Watlington led all Bobcats with nine kills on .263 hitting, with six digs and four block assists. Brittany Collins added 23 assists and 10 digs to notch a double-double. Jessica Weynand, Melinda Cave and Jillian Wolpman each added eight kills.

Texas State began the first set down 3-0, before taking the lead at 5-5 and never letting go. The Lady Demons managed to stay within striking range, but a kill by Amber Calhoun at the 19-17 was as close as Northwestern State would get in the set as the Bobcats pulled a 25-20 win over the Lady Demons to take the lead.

Set two was a tight race the whole way through. The teams went point-for-point with 11 ties, with the last tie coming at 23-All. Texas State called timeout after a Bobcat error forced the tie, but the timeout worked in the Bobcats favor as Collins recorded a kill to go ahead by one. The Lady Demons committed an attack error to end the set, giving Texas State a 2-0 lead going into intermission.

The excitement and competitiveness carried on into the third set as the teams had to go into extra points to win the set. Cave tallied a kill at the 24-All mark, but Northwestern State registered a kill and capitalized on a Texas State ball handling error to take the third set, 26-24 away from the Bobcats.

The Bobcats settled things with Northwestern State in the fourth as they took the set 25-20, to come away with the win.

Texas State outhit Northwestern State .230 to .148 to take its fourth straight match over the Lady Demons expanding the all-time series lead to 33-2.

Northwestern State was led by Yelena Enwere who tallied 18 kills and seven digs for the Lady Demons. The Lady Demons drop to 1-15, 0-8 in SLC play.

The Bobcats return home on Thursday, Oct. 22 to host Nicholls at 6:30pm. They will play Southeastern La. on Saturday, Oct. 24 at 2:00pm.
