SAN MARCOS - A wet, rainy afternoon failed to stop the Texas State Bobcats Sunday afternoon, and with the help of a hat trick from Britney Curry, the team took a 3-1 victory over McNeese State at the Bobcat Soccer Complex.

Texas State improves to 9-5-0 on the season and an unbeaten 4-0 in Southland Conference action. McNeese State falls to 4-9-2 overall and 0-4-0 against the league.

"We talk about team chemistry so much in practice and today you saw a team come together," said head coach Kat Conner. "The more the season progresses, you'll see them progressing more as a unity. Today, you saw the team grow to trust each other more and I'm very proud of them."

The Bobcats linked together for the first time this afternoon in the 26th minute when Jaime Leake caught Katie Herrick down the left side of the field. Herrick found a wide open Curry, and with the pass, the junior went one-on-one with the keeper until nailing her first goal from 18 yards out.

Just five minutes later, Curry found the net again, this time on an assist from Taylor Person down the middle of the field. Curry's final goal came on a penalty kick, just before the first half concluded at 41:27.

The hat trick marks the second three-goal game for Curry in her career.

Texas State outshot McNeese 11-10, but in the second half, the Cowgirls took charge offensively. McNeese held an 8-4 shot margin and at 82:14, Alana Clark broke through for the Cowgirls lone goal.

Mawyer shut down the charge with eight saves and picked up her fifth win of the season.

Texas State will move on to face Nicholls and Southeastern Louisiana on the road beginning Friday.
