Sam Houston State Snaps Bobcats Four-Match Win Streak

HUNTSVILLE, Texas - Texas State drops a heart breaker to Sam Houston State on the road. The Bobcats were not able to outlast the Bearkats losing tonight's match 3-2. Texas State's record falls to 8-10, 2-1 in SLC action.

Right side hitters Melinda Cave and AJ Watlington both registered double-doubles versus the Bearkats. Cave tallied 19 kills, 11 digs and nine blocks; one shy of a triple-double, while Watlington added 13 kills and 11 digs of her own. Jessica Weynand recorded nine kills and 13 digs.

Texas State won the first set as it beat the Bearkats 25-14, hitting .300 for the biggest win margin of the night.

The next two sets didn't have quite the same outcome as the Bobcats lost sets two and three 30-32 and 21-25. Texas State hit below .200 for both sets to fall behind 2-1 to the Bearkats.

Texas State came back in the fourth to win the set 26-24 in yet another close set between the two teams. With the match going to the fifth and final set, the Bearkats grabbed the win 16-14 after a Bobcat attack error and a kill by the Bearkats Carli Kolbe.

Both teams finished the match hitting .178. Carli Kolbe led the Bearkats with 28 kills and 13 digs. Michelle Miller tallied 57 assists for Sam Houston State, which improved its record to 10-10, 2-1 SLC.

Texas State will head to Beaumont to face Lamar on Saturday, Oct. 3 at 3:00pm.The Bobcats next home match will be on Friday, Oct. 9 at 6:30pm versus UT Arlington for their Dig Pink match.
