SAN MARCOS - The Bobcat cross country team hosted the Texas State Invitational this morning as high school and college teams alike came to participate in the meet. It was the first meet of the season for the Bobcats. The women's team placed third out of eight teams, while the men's team placed seventh.
Winning the three mile race for the women was the University of Texas. UTSA took second and Texas State completed the top three.
Leading the way for the women's side was Stephanie Armstrong crossing the line first for the Bobcats in 19:34. Right behind her was Kelly Butler in 19:55. Rounding out the top five were Lauren McKenna (20:32), Dana Dolejsi (20:38) and Lindsey Maxwell with 20:48.
In the five mile race for the men the University of Texas captured first place. UTSA placed second and Angelo State placed third. Texas State finished seventh.
On the men's side Michael Richards was the first Bobcat to complete the race as he finished in a time of 29:55. Eric Pedrosa finished second for Texas State in a time of 29:55. Matt Novak (29:56), Jon Hernandez (29:57) and Steve Piazza (34.50) were the next three Bobcats to finish the race.
