Final Stats
TUCSON, Az., - The Texas State volleyball team competed against the Arizona Wildcats (4-0) in the first match of the Sheraton Four Points Arizona Invitational. The Bobcats lost in three sets (25-13, 25-21, 25-14), as they bring their overall record to 3-3. Texas State will play Texas Tech in its second match of the tourney.
Middle blocker Emily (Jones) WilkesJoneswas Texas State's highest scorer as she recorded nine kills and four blocks (one solo). Setter Brittany Collins had 13 assists and nine digs in today's match.
The Bobcats closest match came in the second set where they lost 25-21. Texas State came to within two late in the match as the score read 22-10, after two straight kills from Jones Wilkes, which caused Arizona to take a timeout. The Bobcats called a timeout at 24-21. Arizona scored a service ace out of the timeout to give the Wildcats their second straight set. Attack errors and lack of blocks seemed to get the best of the Bobcats in the third set, ending the match in a 3-0 loss.
Lawrencia Brown was held to zero kills in today's match for only the second time in her career, ending a 97-game scoring streak. The last time Brown did not have a kill was during her freshman year in a 4-1 loss on September 10, 2005 against Arizona State. Brown had only two attack attempts in today's match. She had the team's only service ace.
Texas State posted its lowest attack percentage of the season with .050, which hurt them in its first three set loss of the season.
The Bobcats will be back in action later on tonight as they face Texas Tech at 5:00 p.m. MT. The two teams last played in 2006 where Texas Tech won 3-0. Texas Tech leads the all-time series 15-3-1.
