SAN MARCOS - Jessica Weynand and Brittany Collins both had a double-double in the four set loss to UTSA this afternoon. The Bobcats fell to the Roadrunners 3-1 (17-25, 25-23, 23-25, 20-25) in their second Southland Conference match of the season bringing their overall record to 8-11, 1-1 SLC.
The Bobcats kept the first set within arm's reach. In a match up that was sure to be one for the fans, both teams brought their A-game. UTSA was able to capitalize on errors near the end of the first set as they took the lead 25-17, over the Bobcats.
Despite the pressure that UTSA was giving the Bobcats in the second set, Texas State stayed calm and was able to tie the match at 1-1. Weynand had the set winning kill off an assist from Collins.
The third set was just like the second as it went down to the tire. With the lead changing back-and-forth it was indeed a competitive set. The score was tied 23-23, before a UTSA kill and a Bobcat receiving error ended the set. Texas State dropped the set 23-25, and fell behind in the set count, 1-2.
Texas State dropped the last set 25-20, to fall to the Roadrunners in four. Two Bobcats had a double-double for the match as Weynand tallied 15 kills and 15 digs for her second double-double of the season. Collins posted a double-double for the second match in a row with 21 assists and 18 digs. Lawrencia Brown had 14 kills and nine digs.
Texas State volleyball will return to action at home next week as they will host Sam Houston State in its first SLC match at home this season. Match time is set for 7:00 p.m. at Strahan Coliseum.
