SAN MARCOS - Late rally comes up short for the Bobcats as they fall 3-1 to visiting Baylor. After tying the sets 1-1 after the second, the Bobcats could not complete a win. Texas State Jessica Weynand led the attack with 11 kills and seven digs.
After battling back-and-forth for the last few plays of the fourth set, Baylor won its final point on a Texas State set error. Texas State's loss brings them to 3-2 in its first full week of play.
"It was a very, very disappointing loss. We came out with no energy tonight. The atmosphere was there tonight and we let them (fans) down tonight," said head coach Karen Chisum. "It's a big disappointing loss for Texas State volleyball I believe and for the fans."
Shelbi Irvin served seven straight points in the last set for the Bobcats to bring them within three. After tying the match at 20 all, the Bobcats forced the Bears to take their final timeout. The Bobcats were able to go up 26-25, but two costly errors ended their run.
The Bobcats finished with their lowest hitting percentage of the season with .080. The Texas State defense did not record a block until the fourth set, which may have hurt them in the earlier sets.
Texas State will hit the road this weekend and play a two-day tournament at the University of Arizona. The Sheraton Four Points Arizona Invitational will run from Sept. 5-6. The Bobcats will play Arizona, Texas Tech and Santa Clara over the course of the tournament.
