SAN MARCOS - After fighting off the Houston Cougars until the final minutes of the game, an outstretched Deborah Ross could not block a header from flying into the back of the net, and the Texas State Bobcats fell to the UH 1-0 Friday night at the Bobcat Soccer Complex.

Texas State is now 2-3-1 with the loss and Houston grabbed its fourth win in the contest.

Up until the 84th minute, the 816 fans in attendance were on edge with the even game. UH had its chance with a corner kick and Stephanie Derieg placed the ball in reach of Jessica Rathweg. Rathweg caught the pass with what proved to be the game-winning header at 84:24.

With just minutes remaining in regulation, Marty Wright found Britney Curry open on the left side of the field. Curry, pushing for a tie game, broke free but was tripped by a Houston defender and a yellow card was issued. The `Cats couldn't pull through in the final minutes to force an overtime match.

Texas State registered just two shots in the second half, trailing 14-7 in the margin to Houston. The `Cats took seven corners to Houston's 5.

In the physical battle, Houston was whistled for 12 fouls, which doubled the Texas State's count. The foe ended the night with two warning, including a yellow card in the 79th minute, alongside side the final card against Curry.

Texas State will be back in action Sunday afternoon against Centenary College. First kick is scheduled for 1 p.m. against the Ladies.
