`Cats Run Through Panthers in Double Header

SAN MARCOS -Texas State volleyball opened its return home with a double header against Prairie View A&M. In their first double header of the season the Bobcats swept the Panthers in six straight sets to earn two wins and improve their overall record to, 6-8.

Texas State won the second match with no sweat as they beat the Panthers (25-16, 25-10, 25-15). The `Cats had 12 aces in the second match and 20 overall, to post a convincing victory tonight over PVAMU.

Whitney Rhoden had 16 kills throughout the day to lead the Bobcats. AJ Watlington had an amazing 10 kills in the second match and 15 kills total. Jessica Weynand tallied 12 kills and 13 digs for her overall day summary.

Shelbi Irvin served three straight aces in the last set to bring the score to 24, leaving only one more Bobcat point to be earned.

The `Cats got out to 1-0 lead after the first set of the first match, after having a team attack percentage of .550 in the first set. They finished the set on a 13-2 run. Melinda Cave had four kills in the first set, while Whitney Rhoden had eight to lead the team in the first match. Brittany Collins had 20 assists and six digs. Texas State won the first set 3-0 (25-12, 25-16, 25-9). The `Cats finished with a .373 attack percentage and 11 total blocks.

Texas State will head to Malibu, Calif. this weekend as they get ready to play Cal State Northridge, UC Santa Barbara and Pepperdine at the Pepperdine Asics Classic. The `Cats will play Cal State Northridge on Friday night at 7:00 p.m. CT. They will play UC Santa Barbara at 3:00 p.m. CT and host school Pepperdine at 9:30 C.T. Texas State will return home play on Oct. 2, when they open up Southland Conference action at home and play Sam Houston.
