Litvinova Wins Olympic Silver Medal

After posting one of the Top Nine 400-meter times earlier in the year, former Texas State track and field standout Liudmila Litvinova capped off her historic 2008 season by winning a Silver Medal at the XXIX Olympic Games in Beijing, China.

Litvinova ran the third leg on the Russian women's 4x400-meter relay team that finished as the runner-up in the finals race with a time of 3:18.82. The United States won the Gold Medal with a time of 3:18.54, while Jamaica was the Bronze Medalist relay team with a third-place time of 3:20.40.

Earlier this year, Litvinova posted the world's ninth-fastest 400-meter time with 50.69 seconds on June 15 in Zhukovskiy, Russia.

Her Olympic Silver Medal marks the second straight year that Litvinova has earned a medal. Last year, she was a member of Russia's relay team that set a meet record while winning the 4x400-meter race at the European Under-23 Championships. She also won the 400-meter dash at that same meet with a time of 51.25 seconds, edging two of her Russian teammates, Olga Shulikova and Kseniya Zadorina.

Litvinova ran in the Under-23 Championships after being named the 2007 Southland Conference Indoor Track and Field Athlete of the Year while competing at Texas State. She won the 400-meter dash at the SLC Indoor Championships with a time of 55.27 seconcs and was a member of Texas State's 4x400-meter relay team that won seven gold medals during her four-year career at the Southland Conference Indoor and Outdoor Championships.

She also was an outstanding student at Texas State as she had a 3.77 grade point average as an accounting major with a 3.77 grade point average, and was a member of the Beta Sigma Gamma Honor Society for business students. She has been an annual Oak Farms Dairy Award winner during her career at Texas State, including a "Cream of the Crop" honoree in 2006 when she carried a 4.00 GPA.
