SAN MARCOS - In the Texas State Bobcats first showing at the Miners' Classic in El Paso, the team faced tournament host UTEP and fell 1-0 in a stifling match Friday night at University Field. The Bobcats shift to 1-1 with the dropped decision and face Eastern Washington Sunday morning at 10 a.m. for their final game of the tournament.

Despite six shot-attempts fired toward the posts, UTEP goalkeeper Chandra Morden Bednar turned away four-on-goal in her 90:00, holding off the Texas State offense. Junior Andrea Grifo tuned the offensive forces with three shots, including one in the 9th minute off a corner from Nikki Kinnard that was turned away. Just 6 minutes later, freshman Kendall Webber fired a second attempt that was blocked.

In the 21st minute, Tameka Sumter found an opening at the goal after an assist from Corney Casey that Bobcat goalkeeper Mandi Mawyer could not tame. The goal proved to be the deficit for the `Cats, after Grifo tried to break even for the tie in the 89th minute with a final shot attempt.

UTEP posted 12 shots against Texas State and held a 5-3 margin on corners over the Bobcats.

Mawyer went on to take four saves for the night.

The team will be back on the field Sunday morning against EWU and live stats will be available on www.utepathletics.com.
