Final Stats

Lake Charles, La. - The Texas State Bobcats rewrote the record books Saturday afternoon at Cowboy Diamond when the team pounded out an all-time high 27 hits to put a 26-4 run-ruling victory over the McNeese State Cowboys in Lake Charles.

The `Cats erased a 20-run high-mark against a Southland Conference opponent with the victory, as well and move to 16-10 in league-play. With the loss, McNeese is eliminated from post-season play.

The high-scoring affair jumped off when Thomas Field hit a lead-off home run to left center to open the game. Laurn Randell drew a walk, and with one out Lance Loftin hit an RBI-double to centerfield for a quick two runs. After moving to third base on a fielder's choice, Loftin scored on a single through the left side from Aaron Fuller to give the `Cats a 3-0 lead.

In the bottom half of the frame, Steven Siers issued back-to-back walks and hit Nic Eubanks to give the Cowboys a full diamond to work with, but a sacrifice RBI would be all the Bobcat defense would give up in the inning for a 3-1 game.

Texas State dropped in three more runs in the top of the second, starting with a second-time around homer from Field. Randell was handed his second walk of the game, but was sent home shortly after Paul Goldschmidt smashed an 0-2 pitch to left center, lengthening the `Cats margin by five.

The fury took off in the top of the third when Texas State more than doubled its runs on seven hits, sending eight across to take a 14-1 edge. Ben Theriot, Elliott Babcock and Jason Martinson put a trio of singles on the board for their first hits of the game and all three crossed the plate toward the `Cats tally. Three more singles and a double filled out Texas State's half of the third inning.

McNeese's Mace Hebert scored in the bottom of the third on a Tay Freemen double, after putting a single through the left side to reach base.

Texas State added four runs in the fourth, including a two-run blast from Loftin, and sent six across in the fifth for 24 runs. The `Cats added the final two in the top of the seventh, while the Cowboys only managed to score two more for a 26-4 final.

The Bobcats matched an all-time high seven doubles hit in a single game.

Steven Siers pitched a successful six innings, holding McNeese to four runs off five hits and improves his record to 5-2.

Loftin went 5-for-6 in the effort and joins Witek for most hits in a single game. He added four runs and four RBI in the team-leading effort. Field went 4-for-6 and scored four runs and batted in five and Babcock went 4-for-6 with two runs a single RBI. Randell walked away with a 2-for-3 night and scored five runs to match a record set by Field last season for most runs scored in a game.

All but two Bobcats notched at least one hit in the winning effort.

Scott Holstein took the loss after being rocked for ten runs off nine hits in 2.1 innings. The Cowboys shuffled through five other pitchers before the games end.

Game three is slated to begin at 1 p.m. and the `Cats will look to take their second SLC-sweep of the season.
