SAN ANTONIO - - The Texas State women's tennis team won its fourth straight match with a 5-2 victory at UTSA Sunday afternoon at the UTSA Tennis Center.

Texas State improves to 9-8 overall this season and owns a 6-2 record in the Southland Conference standings after beating UTSA, Texas A&M-Corpus Christi yesterday, Sam Houston State and Stephen F. Austin last weekend. The Bobcats also beat McNeese State on Mar. 9.

After Giraldo and Hartmann claimed a 9-8 win in No. 1 doubles, UTSA rebounded with a 9-7 win at No. 2 doubles. With the point and a 1-0 advantage on the line, Farmer and Gulida triumphed over Nathalie Wallin and Holly Phillips with an 8-5 win.

Karen Scida evened the match at 1-1 with a No. 1 singles win over Giraldo 6-4, 7-6, but Hartmann delivered a straight set 6-4, 6-1 win over Wallin at No. 2 singles. Gulida also won in straight sets at the No. 5 spot, taking a 6-0, 6-3 match over Caroline Dedering to bring the `Cats within a point of the match victory.

UTSA came back with a close 7-5, 7-6 win at No. 6 singles, but Ellis won 7-5, 7-5 at No. 3 singles for the Bobcats, who added the fifth and final point when Chafitz won 6-3, 1-6, 6-3 over Holly Phillips.

The Bobcats play host to Nicholls State next Saturday and Southeastern Louisiana on April 13. Both matches begin at 10:00 a.m.
