Final Stats
SAN ANTONIO -
Jetta Weinheimer tallied three hits and drove in three runs while Ragan Blake shut down the UTSA offense with a two-hit shutout as Texas State (26-11, 16-2 SLC) completed a series sweep over Southland Conference and I-35 Rival UTSA (18-18, 13-8 SLC).
The win marked the eighth in a row for the Bobcats, who also grew their lead in the SLC standings
Texas State struck with a run in the first inning for the third straight game when Weinheimer singled up the middle to score McKenzie Baack. Baack drew a two-out walk and moved to second on a single by Leah Boatright before coming home on Weinheimer's two-out hit.
Weinheimer extended the lead in the third with another big hit. Baack poked a single just inside the left field line, and Boatright delivered a double to the gap in right center to advance Baack to third. Weinheimer then stepped in and smoked a double to the left field corner, driving in two runs and giving the Bobcats a 3-0 lead. Two batters later Jenna Emery extended the lead with a two-out single to right center to plate Weinheimer.
Ragan Blake (12-8) took care of the rest, retiring the final 11 Roadrunners in order to complete her fifth shutout of the season. She also walked only one and struck out five.
Amanda Nikolenko (10-11) took her third loss of the series after allowing four runs on six hits and a walk in 2.1 innings. Danye Holmes pitched the final 4.2 innings, scattering five hits and striking out three.
