SAN MARCOS - Paul Goldschmidt and Thomas Field belted two home runs toward the `Cats 18-hit tally, but rapid fire bats from the Baylor Bears could not be slowed and the Texas State Bobcats fell 25-13 in eight innings at Bobcat Field Wednesday night.

Texas State jumped on the board first in the bottom of the second inning scoring five runs on four hits. Thomas Field notched his second inside-the-park home run with two runners on to highlight the frame and give the `Cats an early 5-0 lead.

Baylor clawed back for six-straight scoring innings, putting no less than two runs on the board in each stint at the plate. After posting four runs in the top of the third to trim the Bobcats edge, the foe closed out a five -run fourth with a pair of doubles to take a 9-7 lead.

After leading off the bottom of the third with a homer to left center, Goldschmidt notched his 15th of the season with a one-out bomb in the bottom of the fourth to tie the game. Field scored the `Cats eighth run with a one-out homer to left center earlier in the frame.

While the Bobcat bats slowed, BU went on to add three runs in both the fifth and sixth innings and a pair in the seventh before Texas State could answer offensively.

Thanks to the Bears mound, three walks brought in the first score in the bottom of the seventh for a 17-10 score in Baylor's favor. A fielding error loaded the bases for Texas State and Lance Loftin nearly notched his first grand slam of the season, knocking in three runs with a triple to the opposite corner. A 17-13 gap would be the closest the `Cats would come to the Bears.

Baylor tacked on eight runs in the top of the eighth before a mercy rule was put into play.

Kane Holbrooks took the loss for Texas State and falls to 2-4 on the season. The Bobcats shift to 23-16 overall before heading into Southland Conference play this weekend.

Each Bobcat reached base in tonight's contest and all but one managed a hit. Laurn Randell, Adam Witek and Loftin each notched three hits in the effort.

Texas State will take on Lamar at Bobcat Field in a three-day series, beginning Friday night at 6 p.m.
