Final Stats
College Station, TX -
The sixth-ranked Texas A&M Aggie offense posed a great challenge for the Texas State Bobcats, pounding out 20 hits for 14 runs during the game to take a 14-11 win from the Bobcats.
The Aggies retired the side to open the game and with a lead-off fly out from Kyle Colligan and it seemed Texas State would do the same. But Zach Boles walked Blake Stouffer on the next at bat and a trio of base hits gave A&M a 2-0 lead.
Down 6-0 in the third inning, Texas State got its first base runner when Adam Witek reached on a fielding error to second base. Jonathan Farrow notched the `Cats first hit with a single through the left side and two outs later the pair shifted into scoring position. Elliott Babcock followed with a line drive to the right field gap, plating Witek and Farrow and trotted home on Paul Goldschmidt's towering homer to center.
In the fourth inning, A&M doubled its run tally with seven hits to take a 12-4 edge over the `Cats, closing the book on Zach Boles stint on the mound. Tyler Brundridge came in to get out of the jam and pitched well for 4.2 innings to finish the game, giving up his lone two runs in the sixth.
The Bobcats capitalized on three errors in the top of eighth inning, fueling a seven-run rally. Paul Goldschmidt, representing the game-tying run, was retired by A&M pitcher Kyle Thebeau on a pop-up to the catcher to end the threat.
Thebeau posed too much of a challenge for Texas State to mount a second rally in the ninth and the Aggies took a 14-11 victory at Olsen Field. A&M improves to 34-7 on the year with the win.
Boles took the loss for the Bobcats and falls to 1-4 on the season.
Texas State will enter tomorrow's host-game with Baylor 23-15 after the loss. First pitch is slated for 6 p.m. with Kane Holbrooks taking the mound for the `Cats.
