EDINBURG -
Tough wind conditions and a tough Lady Broncs team proved too much to overcome as the Bobcats dropped a 5-2 decision at UTPA.
Texas State opened the match with a pair of 8-3 losses in the top two doubles spots, and the Lady Broncs increased their lead to 2-0 when Andrea Giraldo lost the No. 1 singles point 2-6, 1-6 to Giana Oliveira. Playing conditions proved hard as winds were clocked at 21 miles per hour during doubles play before topping out at 50 miles per hour.
Ashley Ellis tried to pull the Bobcats within a point at the No. 2 spot but came up just short in a tense 6-7, 6-7 match against Julia Cirne-Lima.
Rabea Hartmann posted a 6-2, 6-3 win at No. 3 to give Texas State its first point in the match, but UTPA's Stephanie Willerding knocked off Lainy Chafitz 6-3, 7-6 to clinch the win for the Lady Broncs.
Sumarie Muller won Texas State's other point of the match when she rebounded from a game one loss to win 2-6, 6-2, 6-1 in the No. 6 position.
