Final Stats

SAN MARCOS - Ben Theriot was put in an all too familiar situation when he took his spot at the plate in the bottom of the ninth inning. With two outs and a chance to send the game-winning run across the plate, the sophomore dribbled the ball to the right side of the infield and sent Laurn Randell home for the 10-9 victory over Texas-Arlington at Bobcat Field. The Texas State Bobcats improve to a Southland Conference 3-2 mark and an 11-7 overall record with the success.

UTA put up a five runs in the seventh inning and one in the top of the ninth to give Texas State a five-mark make-up margin. Paul Goldschmidt led-off the surviving rally with a single to the right center gap to bring up Theriot and on a fielder's choice, Theriot landed on the corner and Goldschmidt stayed on at second thanks to a Maverick error, but the leading man was sent home shortly thereafter on Jerry Cervantes' two-base smack to centerfield.

The tally kept on with Texas State notching its fourth-straight saving grace hit as Lance Loftin and Spenser Dennis put together back-to-back base knocks for a combined three RBI. Now with a 9-8 mark on its hands and just one out to work with, due to a sacrifice bunt and a strikeout, Texas State put its faith in the senior leadership and the chance paid off when Elliott Babcock was called in for Jonathan Farrow at the plate and took his slice through the left side to send Dennis home for the tie.

Randell, who reached on a walk and shifted to the scoring corner on a stolen base proved to be the game-winning run with Theriot's pop in the infield.

Thomas Field and Randell both went 3-for-5 in tonight's contest and Adam Witek put up three hits as well to keep his hitting streak alive. Loftin went 2-for-4 with a solo RBI, while scoring a game-high three runs.

Steven Siers made the starting appearance for Texas State and his 6.1 innings were highlighted by eight strikeouts, including a fourth inning fan. Brandon Gaviglio was credited with his first-career with after closing out the contest for the `Cats.

The Mavericks shuffled through five hurlers on the mound and Marcus Limon was charged with the afternoon's loss.

Matt Ottemen led UTA at the plate, plating three off three hits and scoring two runs.

Texas State and Texas-Arlington will conclude the series tomorrow afternoon with first pitched scheduled for 1 p.m.
